News - Executive - 2 Nov 2007

News Item 22 of 22

Executive: 2 Nov 2007
From The Presidentís Desk

We are entering the sixth month of the mandate of the new executive, and it has not always been easy or pleasant during this period. I hope this will be behind us shortly and we can get down to what the Legion is all about. This has been very eloquently built into the opening and closing ceremony of every Legion meeting, and I charge you to pay attention and listen to these ceremonies.

We have had two members of the executive resign for personal reasons. Comrade Jim Meyer has resigned his positions as Public Relations Officer, Editor of the dugout, and Honours and Awards. Comrade Eric Johnson resigned as Poppy Chairman. The executive has accepted these resignations with regret, and thank those members for their contribution in the past.

Replacing Comrade Jim Meyer will be Comrade Gloria McKibbin, who comes to us with twenty years experience in the Public Relations Field, and is also the Track & Field Chairperson. Welcome to this new portfolio Gloria. Gloria gives 100% of herself for the Legion. Our 2nd Vice President, Comrade Michael Fenton has stepped into the Poppy Fund portfolio. He had to fit in quickly as the poppy drive was fast approaching, and he has done this with enthusiasm and drive. Thanks Comrade Mike, you can always be called upon to carry the torch to the finish line.

The Honours and Awards portfolio held by Comrade Jim Meyer has been filled by Comrade Jean Davidson. Jean is a dedicated Legion member and we welcome her to the executive.

I am pleased to have Vivian Peddle back on the executive, this time as Sick & Visiting Chairperson and, by the number of times I see her in the branch dressed in Legion attire, she is fulfilling the requirements of her portfolio very conscientiously. I would be remiss if I didnít mention her husband John who has always been very supportive of her. Thanks Vivian and John.

I would also like to take this opportunity to wish each and every comrade and their families, a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Have a safe holiday season.

Yours In Comradeship,
Dave Davidson

Dave Davidson, President Fred Gies Branch 50 (On.) RCL
