Waterloo North Hydro has seen an increase in fraudulent calls targeting homeowners and small business customers across our service territory. Customers are receiving calls from a group claiming to be Waterloo North Hydro and this group even makes it look like the call is coming from Waterloo North Hydro's main phone number (519-886-5090). During the call, customers are threatened with immediate disconnection if they do not make an immediate payment of a specific amount. Customers are being asked to make their payment at Bitcoin ATM machines at various locations across the Waterloo Region. The caller often tries to keep the customer on the phone until they have made the payment.
