The Military Families Fund (MFF) received a significant boost recently ...half a million dollars to be exact. General Rick Hillier, Chief of the Defence Staff, accepted on behalf of CF personnel and their families, a contribution of $500 000 to the MFF from CANEX, as represented by Gerry Mahon, CANEX’s president.
Military Families Fund gets a boost
CANEX is a division of the Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency (CFPSA), the arm of the CF that provides programs and services for the well-being of the CF community. Brigadier-General D.E. Martin, CFPSA’s chief executive officer, CANEX Senior Management and members of the MFF executive committee witnessed the presentation.
At the event, Gen Hillier said that CANEX’s donation will make a difference in the lives of Canadian soldiers, sailors, airmen and airwomen, and their families. With the launch of the MFF, there has been a sense of excitement within the CF community, as they and their families are feeling valued and appreciated by Canadians.
The money was raised through the patronage of CF members, and DND employees and retirees who have participated in the Group Home and Auto Insurance program offered by CANEX and administered by the Personal Insurance Company of Canada. Proceeds from this program, like those from all of CANEX’s initiatives, are reinvested into morale and welfare programs for CF members and their families.
The MFF is an agile and responsive means for base and wing commanders, in concert with Military Family Resource Centres and financial counsellors of SISIP Financial Services (a division of the CFPSA) to help military families within hours of being advised of need.
