It was announced Friday afternoon, the region will be placed in the red (control) zone of the province's response framework as of Monday, November 23.
Some of the measures include limiting organized public events and social gatherings to five people indoors and 25 people outdoors.
There can also only be a maximum of ten people seated indoors at a restaurant and movie theatres have to close.
Regional Chair Karen Redman and Waterloo Region's Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang both recently requested the area be placed into the red zone.
Dr. Wang continues to recommend that residents stay home and only leave for essential purposes such as groceries, to go to work or school and for medical appointments.
